My Japan Photo Competition

My Japan is the last fund-raising project which brings each of the 140 scouts going to Japan and the local community together. The task is to get at least one local sponsorship of £25 from any local business. In return they will receive a framed photograph that you will take yourself, tickets to the exhibition in Manchester City Centre (venue to be confirmed) and entered into a best photograph competition which will be judged by an independent party in the first week in September.

The photograph itself, should represent your own experience of Japan – may that be the bright lights of Tokyo, the sight of Mount Fuji or those in your home stay, whatever it may be it has to be your Japan experience and not those that you are away with!

This is a task that you MUST complete.

The deadline for the completed sponsor forms and funds back is July 16th.

At least one contact detail is required for the business so they CAN receive an invitation to the event and be sure to print the business name correctly as this is how it will appear on the photograph.

All sponsor forms to be returned to your Troop Leader!

Please remember there is no upper limit on how many sponsorships you get but each picture will have to be different if you get more than one. At the end of the trip all photographs to be printed will need to go to the media team.

Climb to Japan

Sunday 20th June; 12:40 at Awesome Walls Climbing Centre, Stockport.

Eight explorer scouts from South Manchester are climbing the height of Mount Fuji on the walls. Four are climbing, four are belaying. Two Leaders have given up their weekends (very kindly) to help.

Determined, they ascend, again and again. With an overall target of 39 times each, it’s a hard ask. But 3776m worth of climbing is nothing to them, with the thought of spending 3 weeks in Japan; attending the 15th Nippon Jamboree and visiting and experiencing the Japanese culture with their own (somewhat worn) hands, set in their minds.

Defying the Laws of Gravity

“I’m a shooting star leaping through the skies
Like a tiger defying the laws of gravity
I’m a racing car passing by like Lady Godiva
I’m gonna go go go
There’s no stopping me”

Our intrepid sky diver completed his jump, and came through in one piece.
