Guest Blog – Scotland

August 7, 2010 Blog, Featured, IR No Comments

Watashi wa Ryan and I am a scottish leader from the 83rd Fife Explorer Group (http://www.83rdscouts.org.uk). This is my second Nippon Jamboree after being a participant in 2006. The Nippon Jamboree is a great experience to meet new people and learn about different cultures. This year we have taken 28 scouts ranging from 15-19 and have 5 leaders.
Prior to the Jamboree i was a subcamp leader at the Scottish Patrol Jamborette for 2 weeks. I left at 9pm on the Friday and left Scotland at 6am on the Saturday morning! Our flight was very smooth except for 2 patches of turbulence.
After the jamboree we are travelling to Morioka for a period of home hospitality and then on to Tokyo for sightseeing.
The Jamboree has allowed me to meet new friends and continue to build on my network of scouts from across the world. It has also allowed me to meet old friends from previous jamborees.

We are not the only representatives from the UK at the 15th Nippon Jamboree. Northern Ireland, and Scotland have both sent Troops. Below is a guest blog from the Northern Irish contingent:

We got the bus from Belfast at 7:30am. This took us to Dublin in approximately 2 hours. We then flew to Schipol in Amsterdam. We had a few minutes to go shopping and then onto our flight to Japan. The flight was 10 hours 20 mins and we were all getting excited to land as it is all our first times here.

We paired off to visit our home hospitality families after us having a troop staying with us in Northern Ireland.I stayed with a family of four in Hitachi City. The highlights of home hospitality included a visit to a traditional tea room and a brilliant sushi restaurant. We were given gifts from the chief scout in hitachi. Everyone had a LEFAL time!

We got to the Jamboree on the 1st in the early hours of the morning. We now have the highest flag in the camp and have had soo many pictures with all the other campers. Were doing activities everyday and the weather is ok but could be better.

Get back to you soon!

From explorers and leaders.

Please remember that today is your last chance to send messages to the Explorers for a few days. We leave for Ho-Ho at midnight UK time Thursday night, so please send your messages before 9pm, so that we have time to get them to the Explorers.

If anyone has anything private that they want passed on, remember that you can also email us on media@japan2010.org.uk
