Vaccinations recommended:

  • Hepatitis A
  • Typhoid

You should also be up to date with UK vaccination schedule.

NEEDED AT LEAST 2 WEEKS BEFORE WE TRAVEL

Suggest they are done before the last training camp.

Day/flight Bag Spare clothes to wear while we fly. Waterproofs, Underwear, shirt, passport. Personal stereo, no liquids or gels

Uniform – Every Explorer must travel in uniform (Change of clothes in day sack to change into on flight)

The Japanese are very smart and tidy people – plan your clothes to match so avoid any offensive logos on T-shirts and no strapless tops etc.

Do not pack any knives, scissors, pins nail files or cutlery in your flight bag.

If you are taking a rucsac, don’t pack anything on the outside (it won’t be attached by the time we get to Japan). Your roll mat should be packed in your rucsac.

Don’t forget your PASSPORT.

The main campsite covers a huge area and we are planning to do quite a lot of travelling so pack carefully and make sure you can carry your bags.

We’re going to Japan at the height of their summer and the temperature will be very high so it is important you have sun cream and a sun hat.

This is a 3 week expedition – make sure you have enough clothes. You will have an opportunity to wash clothes so bring some TRAVEL WASH that you can use to hand wash your stuff (do not bring and white powder type washing stuff, no clothes that need any special washing requirements).

We will be doing some walking – make sure you have the right clothes and good boots with ankle support. You need a drinks bottle. Please remember the message to keep re-hydrating.

Your day sized rucksack for use as a flight bag but also trips out and hill walking.

We’re recommending that everyone takes a camera – takes lots of pictures – hand in a copy of your pictures so we can collate them into a digital pack for everyone – then we will have a great record of everyone’s experiences during the trip.

The kit list is a guideline on what to bring – you can add items if necessary.

Any special medical requirements must, urgently, be made known to Liz Slater (ea.slater@hotmail.com)

We recommend that you have at least 2 Uniforms for the trip – we expect to be using the Uniform a great deal due to the formal nature of the events and society in Japan. A uniform order form has previously been sent out by Troop Leaders.

Call any Leader for advice on what to take with you.

We’ll pass on more tips about travel and packing at the forth-coming parents evening and training weekend in July,

Japan Uniform Order Form

Unofficial Clothing

IMPORTANT MESSAGE
All those of you who are intending to purchase the ‘unofficial hoodies’ for the trip to Japan, the contingent and troop leaders have discussed this tonight, and as we are going as one contingent representing the United Kingdom, these will not be recognised as ‘official uniform’ and will therefore not be allowed.

We have to maintain high standards of dress code and will be spending most of our time in either the polo shirts or uniform.

There will be an official kit list being circulated by email this week, and we will be having a parents meeting very soon where the standard of dress will be discussed.

Please pass this message onto all who are going.

Video Blog 3 – Dance Moves

We all know our “theme” song is Don’t Stop Me Know, and that we may have to “perform” it at some point – possibly in front of 30,000 people at the Opening Ceremony (no pressure!).

So, with Tom-Tom on choreography, and @dandies behind the camera, the team have put together this helpful video to help you learn the dance moves!

Notes

Full Uniform: Kilt, Lovat Green Kilt Socks, Sporran, Scout Belt, Black Shoes – to travel.

Spare Scout Stuff: Spare Scout badges, old uniforms, T-Shirts, can be taken for swapping.  You have to keep your full uniform so buy extra badges, neckers to swap.

Spectacles: If you wear spectacles/contact lenses it is advisable to take a spare pair with you and note of your prescription.

Day-Sac: Your day-sac is your flight bag which should have what you need on the journey and any irreplaceable items.  Include, for example, full change of clothes; medicines, spare spectacles etc; Lightweight waterproof jacket; breakable/fragile items; Books or Games for journey. Please note that no knives, scissors, nailfiles etc can be carried onto the plane nor any liquids/gels more than 100ml and must be in transparent, sealable bag.

Bum-Bag/Pockets: On you should be your passport, travellers cheques and money (not all in the same place as each other!); Notepad & pen; and Camera/Ipod etc.

Pocket Money: Check that your bankcard works in Japan if taking it and remember there is a charge for each transaction so take out a few large amounts or share with others, each taking out once.  If taking Travellers Cheques keep a note of the numbers separate to the travellers cheques, but remember you’ll have to go to a bank in daytime hours which is not always convenient.

Family Photo Album: It is often easier to start conversations where language is a problem by showing photos of your family, home town, hobbies etc.   You can stick postcards as well as photos in to show your local area.

Laundry: Do not take with you articles of clothing that need special washing or cleaning.  It is better to have clothes that can easily be washed by hand and dry quickly in sun.  Mark anything that it likely to be mixed up with permanent marker or namelabels (eg Polo Shirts).
