Yo Mum, Dad, Jack and Sally

Sorry I haven’t updated the blog for a while, I didn’t have the time (or effort) to get to the laptop.
Today we went up Mt. Fuji but I had to stop some way up because my blood pressure issue was going a bit crazy.
During home-stay temperatures reached around 42 degrees so that was hell but I am used to the weather now

lots of love, Fraggle.

Sam Sticks H

Dear Family,
I am writing this from our base camp and have an amazing view of Mt Fuji! The clouds are only around half-way up, making me nervous for the the hike in a few days. The homestay really gave us a taste of Japanese domestic life, and the family was really welcoming, I wasn’t with Lulu, but that wasn’t a problem. The family gave us many traditional Japanese presents, which I love! The Jamboree is really good fun, and the “swapping” is very entertaining, even if it is a little competative, I have a really useful “money can’t buy” Official Japan Scout bag, which everyone is jelous of, and are asking for help to get one! Lulu and me are missing you all, but having an amazing time.
Lots of Love
Oscar

Hey Gareth
I’m having a great time, just finished home stay with my japanese family. It was one of the best experiences i’ve ever had and i got your note before i went which was lovely, calmed me down (: I was nervous but really had no reason to be. They were lovely, i have some pictures off them too. We went to a festival in traditional japanese comonos. We went to look at the biggest lake in japan and then went shopping. I’m at the jamboree now after an over night coach, which i now feel sorry for you having to travel to belgium, i’m fed up of traveling!
I’m really missing you, can’t wait to see you when i get back, keep writing to me and they will pass it on as soon as,but we are on camp so may not reply as quick.
I love you (: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hello Mum, Dad and Victor! I’m at the jamboree, and having a great time. We just finished home-stay yesterday and it was amazing. We went to a scout BBQ, a karaoke bar and a shopping mall. Plus their home. They were very welcoming and kind to me and Ciara, and they loved the gifts! Although it took about 10 minutes, 2 electronic translators and a lot of hand movement to explain the House of Commons tea-towel…but still they didn’t understand. Oscar seems to have had a great time to, and we were both very sad when we had to wave goodbye to our families. We’re missing you lots, hope you our having a lovely time without us (the quiet must be a nice change) and can’t wait to see you soon. Love you lots.

Olivia M (wind troop)

Hey! Arrived at Jamboree at some ridiculous time this morning…and all set up now.
Home stay was amazing, loved it so much. The family were really nice, and we got chopsticks and a rice bowl! We also managed to get ourselves thoroughly confused by wearing kimonos…soo many layers!
Managed to buy some presents and souvenirs whilst there…Tasha..I think I have your bday presents :P and same for you Sarah…even though you can’t use chopsticks!
Hope mum, dad and Loz, you are all okay…wherever in England you are now..you better be checking these!
Lots of love, and see you after Jamboree…its very hot, even though cloudy!
Beth

Phil K (wind)

Hey mum, dad  hope your all ok back in England. I’m having a great time still. Home stay was really good and the Japanese family were really nice. Communication was a bit difficult but we managed alright. We spent the day with the lads scout group and went around some castle which was very interesting. The food was good and they let us go on the computer so I have talked to jen on facebook haha. I arrived at the jamboree today really early in the morning. Its really cloudy/misty but really warm and I have burnt myself a lot today, so I should have a nice tan tomorrow  today was just a colder but tomorrow we start activities which should be great… I’m just lookin forward to meetin people from all over the world and having a laugh.
I’m really enjoying myself and I hope you have a good time on holiday and see this message before you go. Lots of love, your favourite son, Phil xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hey Ash and stringer! Thanks for writing to me (: I’m having a great time, despite not eating very much, I’m sick of rice already and it’s only been a week. I’ve eaten some strange things so far, and I’m trying to get as much down me as possible, however it may be difficult on home stay. Ash – there was a manga store in the town we went to, you would have loved it. I was going to get you something but didn’t know what you’d like. Stringer – OMG!! What song is it? I want to know if I’ve heard it before (: I’m excited for that. Oh and the first thing I bought from Japan was a Japanese magazine with….. TAYLOR ON THE FRONT!! Aha. It was a rip off as I can’t understand any of it, but it was worth it. Please could one of you message Gareth on Facebook for me, I really miss him and he doesn’t know about this blog, not spoke to him in ages, and I’m sure he’d appreciate it, thanks (: oh and my parents please, and Ash let Becci & Nic and the college bunch know for me. I’d like to hear from everyone! I’m starting to miss home, mainly the cat :p Can’t wait to see you when I get back, laters. P.S phil says hello and he’s having a goooood time (:
Deaks.

Matthew.A (Wind)
Hi, been told to do this so here it goes…
Well it was a very long journey, the coach down to London, was nice and smooth we had a break half way there at a service station. I just went loo didn’t buy anything. The plane journey was long, but good, watched about 4 films: Green zone, Clash of the Titians, How to train my dragon… cannot remember the last one. There were all good, but the screen wasn’t so good could only work out some of the films. When we landed it was a long wait getting through the airport same as in Heathrow. But it was a real shock getting out into the Japanese climate, really really hot especially in the sun. Was nice to get onto the couch, in the air-cone. But then again we had a 4 hour coach journey, but this time the stop was when the coach broke down. But I was asleep for most of it.
When we got to our place to stay for the next week, so that we can recharge our batteries, and get use-to the climate. It was great, lovely air-con and nice rooms, but our air-con isn’t working, or we just cannot use it. Our first food that I had was one the plane (Japanese) It was okay, But that’s plane food. The food at the hotel was a lot better, I cannot really remember what we had, probably rice fish and some meat. First night was hard getting to sleep, jet lag, and so was the next 3 nights.
Oh and I see that you’re stuck on Mario again
Bye, love from matthew.

HI Mum, Dad and Jack, I’m having a great time in Japan, the weather can get very hot but suddenly it can start raining so you have to be prepared for both! Japan is everything you expect it to be: Crazy over the top television, no litter anywhere, respectful people and the stereo-typical Japanese buildings. I have made loads of friends since my arrival (as you would probably expect) and get along with most. If you see Leah or Charlotte tell them I said hi and I’m taking some ace photographs (thanks for the camera Dad) Please don’t make the reply too embarrassing because it will be read out in front of everyone.
Thank you for letting me come here it is incredible,
lots of love,
Fraggle xx

Gian-Luca R Wind troop
Mum, Dad, Gabriella, Grandma, Grandpa I’m having a really excellent time it really hot 38 degrees. I have done lots of activities, I’m doing badminton in camp Olympics. The weather is hot and then tips it down with rain. I have made lots of new friends. I have been in the onsan the really hot baths. It is really relaxing but it isn’t a cool down from the sun. I am having a great time and can’t wait to get back to see you all. The travelling day was long and the coach could not get up the small roads so the journey from the airport took 6hrs. You can reply if you want if you do don’t mention any embarrassing thing because the computer people read out what you say in front of everybody. I will txt you when I get some signal but got your miss call. Send this to Grandpa and Grandma. I ‘am having a fantastic time. We had the option to have two days in Tokyo or one in Tokyo and one is Disney. I chose one in Disney and in Tokyo.
Love from Luca.

Hello all! Japan is great!Very hot, and the food is very different to English food in some ways and quite similar in others. Definitely having fun. Went on a hike to the nearest village today, the walk was quite tiring as it was nearly 38 degrees during the hottest part of the day, the walk was fun though. I think I’ll be missing the Onsen when we get back to England – it’s a great way to relax and chat to friends.
Mum, Dad, David – I hope, if you get chance to read this, that you’re having fun in the Loire and I’ll see you in 2 weeks with lots of photos!

Hi mum and dad
They read out the message from you dad at breakfast so now I’m replying straight away. I’m having a top time in Japan; it’s really hot so I’m going to have a nice tan when I get back. I’m really enjoying everything that’s going on. We are just staying in Nagano at the moment in a really nice hostel with lots of stuff to do. I’m trying to keep up with my diary and have currently written about the first two days so I need to catch up a bit. The trip down was fine and I was alright on the plane but was very tired when we actually arrived in Nagano. I’m writing about everything so you’ll be able to read it all when I get home. I’m having loads of fun so don’t worry about me. I’ll try and contact again soon but they are trying to get everyone to send one message at a time but I’ll try and write back soon.
Miss you and love you lots, from your favourite son Phil xxx

Japan’s five word weather; hot, really hot; thunderstorm, Hotter. But hey, it’s great here, having a laugh with so many different people and Onsens are the Don… I’m so bringing one home!!!!! Hope It’s good over there (but it’s better here) Sayonara…

Oscar and Lucinda C
Hi Mum, Dad and Victor,
We are having a great time in Japan, but missing you all! It’s been really warm, however we’re coping. There have been a few bouts of thunder and lightning as we are so high in the mountains, it’s so much more impressive than British weather. We have been really busy with tons of activities. Lucinda is really enjoying exploring some of the nuances of Japan, while I have had fun demonstrating my Origami skills to the contingent; I have had some of my models displayed in the lobby of the hostel! Hope you are all well, and everything is fine at home. We’re sorry not to text, but there’s no signal, as it is blocked by the oh so picturesque mountains! See you soon!
Yours in Scouting

Dear Mum and Dad
I and Ciara are having an absolutely brilliant time in Japan but the heat is absolutely, phenomenally overwhelming. The onsets are the best part, except for the fact that on the inside one, we have to go commando (it is really awkward). We have a 10 O’clock curfew so we are getting a lot of sleep and there is a fan in our room, so it keeps the room cool at night. We enjoy putting our shoes in the fridge as they are exceptionally cold when we take them out and put them on.
My favourite part so far was when we did some camp Olympic training and I won the badminton and secured my place on the team for the Thursday Olympic games. The food is very nice but some of it can be disgusting like the stuffing covered in a small layer of animal skin. Ciara is enjoying stealing lulu’s cub jumper! Ha-ha, She actually quite enjoyed the onsen’s also.
Love you loads and loads!!

Japan is Amazing!

The Japanese like to feel at one with nature, so the scenery is just simply beautiful. It even goes as far as when you are sat in the bath (quite naked) you get a stunning view of a distant town and mountain range.

The food here is surprisingly quite nice, my favourite so far has been a curry dish, I suppose it’s not as tropical as some of the other nice food there, but after trying everything put in front of me, liking some, and pulling my face at others, it was nice to have something that reminded me of home.

The place that we are staying is also really fun, there is a huge sports hall, tennis courts, mini golf, the baths, and a chill out area at the back. The room is nice as well; I’m sharing with Tom, Loco, Adam, Phil and Oscar. All of them are good roommates, Oscar’s even giving me and Phil origami lessons!

The Climate here is Warm! But the tropical storms are awesome, Dry thunder storms and massive down pours just add to the scale of the venture we have taken on.

To everyone at home, me and Brad are ok, Bradley hasn’t starved yet Mum so don’t worry. Hi Hayley, Don’t miss me too much and I haven’t killed Tom yet! (P.S.  getting messages out is limited so I will when I can)

See you all when I get home,

Love Reece V

Troop Updates

Wind Troop
Today Wind Troop kicked off the camp bases with camp Olympics in training for the championship on Thursday between all groups. Events included basketball, volleyball, football, balance beam, a chopstick challenge and a boat race. We already have some clear contenders for bragging rights so the other troops need to watch out!!!

Fire Troop
Fire took part in “The Troop Challenge” were they had to solve a series of problems, questions and clues so they could progress to the next stage of the game.

Earth Troop
Earth took part on a hike into the local village to experience Japanese culture up close and personal. The trip included a 40 min mountain hike to the rural village, where they got to see many interesting things including local bugs, buildings and Buddha’s. Only downside was the lack of open shops on a Sunday, however the two shops that were open more than compensated for this in generosity with gifts of sweets and drinks of Green Tea.

Water Troop
Water spent the morning on the Mini Golf Course, with an inter-patrol competition. The afternoon saw some song practice, followed by Team Games.

News Updates

Rest Day - 24thHere in Nagano we are quite rural and as such we have very limited internet connection and those that have brought phones most do not have reception. If you don’t hear anything remember everything is fine.

Now you know if we told you that everything had gone swimmingly well you wouldn’t believe us but thankful our only hipcup so to speak was Jamie T’s luggage not arriving with everyone else’s. A Virgin representative was waiting at Japan for him to tell us it would be on the next flight and shipped up to us in the hills. As you can see, he looks quite chilled in the native dress code but at the time he was just concerned that his mum didn’t find out in case she got worried.

Breaking News – Jamie’s bag arrived 1st thing on Sunday morning. We’re currently debating about exactly when to tell him that it’s here ;-)Jamie's Bag
