George S – Water Troop
and so the celebrity craze goes on with every member of the troop still being hunted for autographs, pictures and genral swaps (still loving it ). Recently i had to fight off a ant invasion from my main bag and now have a unreasonable hatred towards ants after spending hours picking them out. Yesterday mount fuji came into full view and it was completely awe inspiring also as darkness fell the stars came out and the sky was absoloutley beautiful nothing like I have seen in england, shooting stars also spead across the sky and it was genrally an incredible night. Today we have just been told that we do not have to perform our song (thankfully) as the scots have taken our spot remind me to thank them later :) also id just like to take this oppurtunity to say hello to my parents who must really be enjoying there time without me :P

Daniel L – Water Troop
2 posts in 2 days! i am quite honestly on a roll. Anyway, we’ll start at mt. fuji, absolutely gorgeous is quite possibly the best way i can think to describe it, i have never seen such a breathtaking sight in my entire life especially since it was followed by looking at the stars for a good hour and then a beautiful nights sleep. The morning was abit iffy as the entire troop woke up at 5 having missed the all important peace bell and my troop was greated by the fact that we had to make an entire breakfast out of cornflour and water….. we failed…. good times. Anyway, must shoot off, bysey bye.

What is up family?
I hope that you got the e-mail I sent to you from homestay explainng that every is alright. Oh by the way I’ve arrived at the Jamboree and it’s fantastic. For the first few days Mount Fuji was blocked by clouds and stuff but luckily yesterday morning the whole mountain was visible. I got some great pictures! I’m sad to here about Henblas, was James upset. By the way how many fish did you catch? I’ve swapped all the badges and got a load of awesome woggles. Ours are all rubbish compared to the Japanese. They have robots and Pokemon! Send me a message as soon as you get this. (And try to give me a hint what you want as a gift)
See ya soon, triple explanation mark, smiley face.

george s – water troop

today we treckked up mt fuji due to timing restrictions we couldnt make it to the top but we did make it to the 6th base the treck up to 6th base was really hard work due to the slopes being mainly scree it was along the lines of two steps forward was one step back however the view from the base was amazing. after a quick refuel at the base it was time to head down and what was a 4 hour treck up to the base was quickly turned into a 20 minute run down the scree it was amazing and I really enjoyed it. I only managed to deck it twice and one of those personally i would describe as missing a hill and falling with style :) hopefully there has been a video posted of my attempt at scree running and my falling with style taken by me as I was running and you can form you own opinion ;)

Hope you are all having a great time in Spain, Edin and Manchester, had an amazingly active day today climbing Mt Fuji! Felt like Tensin! The past few days have been fantasic fun, with glorious weather and lots of activities such as pioneering, japanese tea and going to a japanese catholic mass. We had a day of peace on Thursday, we were woken up at 4.30! and after waking up to cook breakfast at 5 each morning, our body clocks will be even more messed up when we see you ;). Mt. Fujl was amazing, we had three hours to climb and reached 2,500 ft!, see you soon, the little ones, Grace and Jamie xxxx

Sinead M, Water Troop

Hey guys :)
Hope these pics are good you’re seeing because half the time i don’t even realise they’re being taken! I have some lovely tan lines to show you, you’re just going to laugh and if its not at that then it will either be at the state i look or me falling asleep in my dinner again…everythings so overwhelming its actually unbelievable! Home stay was amazing…the family me and Beth stayed with were lovely, they even gave us a copy of photos and some other fantastic gifts – and well Mount Fuji, what can i say it was breath-taking – how often is it you get to say you’ve done something like that!
Write Back, speak soon…
Love You xxxxx

I am having fun =) its finally stopped raining and ive gotten a glimpse or two of fuji now, there’s lots of clouds so its not the best of views at the moment. Should be some interesting videos coming up soon of a few of us singing and dancing, today we did the Macarna in front of about 300 people so dont stop me now in front of 20,000 should be no problem =s…

Joe A – Water troop
Hi all, this is the first chance i’ve had to send a message. Just wanted to tell you all that I am well and enjoying myself, (apart from the weather, which is either too hot or too rainy). Had a bit of a disater in the tent when it was rainy, mainly due to the hole in the tent! Missing everyone, I send loves and kisses. Tell Stitch I miss him and send him a big hug and kiss from me, and hope he is being good.
Lots of love Joe xxx

Hi guys, I felt after all the pestering i have recently recieved that i should post a lovely little message for the eyes of any who wish to read it. So today, August the 4th 2010, was a lovely day, It started abit iffy being woken up to move tables and pick up litter at 5:27am (not happy), however this was abruptly followed by 9am activities which included some place to do with the environment and another place rightly named culture crossing, both were excrutiatingly enjoyed by all who i had the joy to be in the presence of. Highlights of the day: Lunch (much chicken was had), Stage 1 (dancing the macarena infront of 300 japanese people), Stage 2 (Singing bob the builder, grease lightning, dont stop me now and YMCA infront of the cameras, May be on the website?), Drinking tea with what was wierdly named the ‘budderist’ and lastly enjoying my beautiful tea which i can currently smell (mmmmm bacon). So on that note i bid you all farewell, Nightey night, Love Dan XxxxX

Anna P – water troop
Hello fam, havn’t managed to write anything since homestay (hope you got the message?) Me and Grace had a lovely day with our new family who are all here at the Jamboree and are desperate to swap the badges! ha, its really good here and am getting into camp spirit despite the intermitant monsoons. Managed to see Fuji yesterday for a few seconds before the cloud came in and whilst writing this the whole camp has gone crazy as the whole mountain can now be seen through the clouds. Got some great pics. had a great day today, drinking Japnanese tea and got to go so read dans above for the rest of our activities!!

Hi family, and Ali :) japan’s been great so far, no problem with nuts and the food’s been great.
First week spent in the mountains in a log cabin between 10 of us with most others in small rooms :) next 2 days in homestay, really nice family across from another pair, met lots of people from the “english speaking society” which was fun and we saw a local temple and a museum. just finished 2nd day of the jamboree and it’s bucketing down!!! we got one tiny glimpse of fuji for about 30 seconds and we spent most of the opening ceremony in a cloud so apologies if there’s not many pictures from the jamboree, oh and we get mobbed by the japanese scouts every 30 seconds which is nice…to a point -.- … hope you all having fun at home

Sam

Liz, Water Troop Leader
Hi Nigel, Vikie & Matt
Moved to homestay on Friday. All were a little nervous as we didn’t know who we were staying with until we arrived. Had to do a speech to the host families and present a gift to the head of the scout council in Osaka – very scary!
I stayed with a venture scout leader who is an English teacher. She wanted to know all about our family and all about what we do in Manchester.
Yesterday we moved to the Jamboree. It was a very long tiring journey overnight and we arrived at the site at 7am. After setting up camp we were all really tired. I was struggling a bit with the heat and went to bed at 6.30pm. Today woke up feeling much better. We have had traditional British weather – rain. The opening ceremony took place but I think we were all a bit cold and wet to enjoy it the best.
The main programme of activities starts tomorrow so the explorers will be off our site most of the day and the leaders get some rest.
Would be nice to get a message back! Sorry, forgot to mention that I met Kohei on Friday! Was great to finally get to speak to him face to face.

Off now to let someone else have a turn.
Bye, love you all!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

So we’ve arrived at the jamboree after a gruelling 10 hour coach journey after what was a fantastic home stay experience. Already after a few hours on the jamboree site we have become local celebrities with many Japanese scouts requesting pictures and autographs it is impossible to walk even a few feet away from our camp without being recognised and spoken to however to be completely honest I love it and can’t wait for the next 8 days  – George

Grace T – Water Troop
To the Taylor family,
Arrived here at the jamboree early this morning and already having a great time. We are all famous – being the only English scouts- and cannot move from being asked for swaps. Have just been speaking to two lovely Japanese children, and after giving them badges and having a picture taken with them, they gave me a keyring. Currently trying to light a fire and cook dinner, so will try to blog again soon,
Hope you’re all enjoying Spain, especially Alice,
Love, as always, Gracie xxxx

Aimee J – Water Troop

Hi Mum, Dad, Megan, Joe and Alice! I’m Having such a great time, the food is amazing, I’ve eaten every single bit of it and it definitely gets the approval! Hope you’re all well at home, we’ve been up to loads of activities like Hiking, Golf, and we’ve got a mini Olympics tomorrow, I’ve basically been living in the On-Sen, a really warm bath downstairs where we’re staying, it’s really relaxing and good for chilling and chatting. I’m staying in a house with 9 other boys, it’s a really good laugh and we definitely got the best place. There’s a massive sports hall that’s absolutely brilliant, but you have to go bare foot and the maximum time of playing basketball barefoot is not great if you want the use of your feet the next day! I was given a ‘ucata’ from the reception to wear when my luggage got left and I was allowed to keep it for the week, I’m wearing it in the mornings as a dressing gown- don’t be surprised if I come home with one, see you soon, love to all, Jamie xxxxx

Amy L – Water Troop
Hey fam, hope all is well at Casa Lees. It’s so hot, Katie would love it – I think today’s meant to get to about 40 degrees and yesterday it was 36 in the shade!!! Having lovely times in the bath etc, my skill level with chopsticks is increasing exponentially, went for a hike to the town the other day and went in a temple – was very nice! I cannot stress how actually roasting it is here!! Take care etc, see you all soon.
Ciao,
Ginge xx

Hey Mum & Dad,
Missing me much? Or you just finally enjoying the well deserved peace and quiet! Hope you’re all not having too much fun without me, if that’s even possible, just take it easy and relax because I will be back before you know it! It’s the fourth day in and guess what…..I’m already sunburnt – although I might say I’m working the lobster look ;). So yeah I’m still alive and also rather giddy with Aimee I might add….hmmmmm good combination?, I’ll allow you to decide that. Just found out who we’re with on the Jamboree – Korea & Sacramento, but also Wind Troop so it’s not all that bad….well to be honest I’m loving it still doesn’t feel real! I’m missing everyone loads even walking the dog if I’m honest – I bet you never thought you would hear that – but yeah, make sure you say hi to everyone from me and text Stacey too! Write back, but not something to embarrassing ey dad…INIT! Love you all loads & I’ll make sure I keep in touch ♥ xxxxx

I bet its really quiet without me but having said that the bays are still there so it cant be that bad… Guess what… Day 4 in Japan and am already sunburnt… oops. Me and Sinead are having a fantastic time, we’re really hyper at the minute … We’re with Korea and Sacramento on the Jamboree as well as Wind Troop which is good…. Anna P – water troop
Hi Mum, Dad and Eddy,
I’m having a great time, weathers amazing – a lot hotter than Croatia!! But have managed not to burn yet! Getting the hang of chopsticks now and the food is really good. Very upset that they have yoghurt here instead of milk so tea is no go… never mind! We went into a local village yesterday and walked round a 300 year old temple, it was lovely. Hope Ed has a good birthday and I am on the lookout for a present! Our trip to Tokyo is at the very end and chopsticks may be the only thing that will fit in my case! Miss you, love Anna xxxxx

Nick Y – Water
Hi family, lol
Ermm, don’t really know what to write seen as ive already been on the phone to you. Having plenty of fun but not enjoying the heat that much, (really sweaty). The foods ok and the Japanese people are really polite. Looking forward to home stay and hope you don’t enjoy the peace and quiet too much. Lots of love, babs x

This has probably been the sweatiest 4 days of my life. There are bugs everywhere and just because it’s hot it doesn’t mean that it’s not wet. It’s rained almost every day and I don’t mean spitting I mean full on thunderstorm. Yesterday I went hiking and bought 1 gift but I can’t tell you what it is. We hiked up to this temple that was amazing. Gold and amazing statues, I’ve taken loads of pictures of it. The food is alright; on the plane I had a Bento Box. No sushi yet but I’m still expecting it. The toilets are really hi-tech all weird buttons and stuff. Haven’t been sunburnt or been to that public bath thing. It’s called an Onsen and I’m going today. Respond soon
P.S. Don’t send anything too embarrassing because they read it out in front of everyone.

Smurf H –Water troop
Heya you lot,
Hope you’re all not missing me to much back at home. They certainly know how to test you, we have to shower without bathing costumes on which is slightly creepy if I must say, talk about knowing where to look when talking to people in there. How are you lot doing back there. Weathers boiling over here at least 45c most days till about 4ish when it decides to thunder and lightning and throw it down, how’s the weather. Met some amazing people over here, has been quite a funny first few days already got loads of pictures, only trouble is the nights are boiling as well so we can never sleep. Me and Aimee have now set everything aside and started again now so it’s all good.
How is Rachel doing bet she isn’t missing me much (tell her to write back on here and they’ll read it out), as for Danny well… my hopes aren’t high about hearing from him any time soon. Not expecting anything back in a long while mum spose your still trying to turn the computer on and type Lol ;) Dad I will be expecting replies everyday considering you will get a looking with the computer now that I’m not there. Just checking your emails aren’t you dad ;) LOL. (Please no embarrassing emails back, Vickys mum wrote one saying don’t forget to brush your teeth, so now everyone takes the Mick hehe.)
Tell everyone I said Hi from me. I’ll write back as soon as you do (long while considering your away right now) have fun.
Love you all! Xxx Lou xxx

To Mum, Dad, Megan, Joe and Alice
Just a quick ‘blog’ to tell you I’m having a great time here in Japan. We went on a hike yesterday to a traditional village and had a wander round which was fantastic, just about to go into the outdoor ‘onsen’ for a Japanese bath. Jamie has all his clothes back but still insists on wearing his Ukata. Jamie is also is a big hit with the Japanese and is doing a Joe – photographs and e-mail addresses flying around everywhere. Hope you are all well, love grace xxx

Dear Mum and Dad,
Hello having a wonderful time in Japan, the weather is very hot and humid, which mum would not like at all! Went to Nagano the other day which is where we are currently staying it is an hour walk from our accommodation. I am sharing a room with 6 other leaders. The food is excellent although in small quantities which aren’t great, as I’m always going hungry. We leave Nagano on Friday to go to the home-stay. Hope you are all well and please keep looking at the website its being updated daily by the media team. Look forward to seeing you in 2 weeks!

Lots of Love
Simon

Troop Updates

July 26, 2010 Blog, Earth, Fire, OR, Water, Wind No Comments

Wind Troop
Today Wind Troop kicked off the camp bases with camp Olympics in training for the championship on Thursday between all groups. Events included basketball, volleyball, football, balance beam, a chopstick challenge and a boat race. We already have some clear contenders for bragging rights so the other troops need to watch out!!!

Fire Troop
Fire took part in “The Troop Challenge” were they had to solve a series of problems, questions and clues so they could progress to the next stage of the game.

Earth Troop
Earth took part on a hike into the local village to experience Japanese culture up close and personal. The trip included a 40 min mountain hike to the rural village, where they got to see many interesting things including local bugs, buildings and Buddha’s. Only downside was the lack of open shops on a Sunday, however the two shops that were open more than compensated for this in generosity with gifts of sweets and drinks of Green Tea.

Water Troop
Water spent the morning on the Mini Golf Course, with an inter-patrol competition. The afternoon saw some song practice, followed by Team Games.

Rest Day

July 25, 2010 Blog, Featured, Water No Comments

Welcome to the first of many updates over the impending three weeks, as this is the first really one let’s start at the beginning.

After leaving you all in Reddish on Thursday morning we made great time down to London Heathrow. Once we arrived at the airport we were faced with the individual check in before we were kindly escorted through security en masse to avoid further queues.

The flight itself was on time and very smooth with a great choice of films including 2012, Nanny McFee, Book of Eli. The food was a mixture of British and Japanese with quite a lot of our guys choosing the Japanese option.

Once landing in Tokyo we had to hang about a bit and fill out our customs cards as they had run out on the plane.
We were then spilt into our troops and driven by coach to Chiba half an hour away for lunch. This was a delightful buffet with loads of choice of many different eastern style food – which was not would you would normally expect from a restaurant called Cafe de Paris.

Four hours later (and after some of us had to change coach due to an over-heating engine) we arrived at our base for the next 8 days in Nagano. The complex is fantastic and FAR better than any tent could ever be being perfect for getting used to the weather.

Our first day was rest day were we had no schedule to keep but still plenty to do. It was a chance for everyone to get to know each other better, know the grounds we are on and more importantly get used to the heat and environment.
