Howdy-doo-dah-day!
I’m still doing fine people – hoho was good (I’ll tell you more upon my return) and I’ve gotten a few presents, including some fans for you mum though I’ve yet to discover anyone who’s heard of satsuma pottery, but I still need a lot more. I also have something small for you Lyndsey and I’m going to get something more.

Still have my emergency rations, but plan on breaking into them tonight!

Jambo’s good, but obviously not as good as mine! :P I’ll let you know more about it soon, but Al is now moaning at me for taking too long. :P

See y’all soon – Matthew.

Happy Birthday my dearest mother! Of course I didn’t forget and was so engrossed in todays activities (singing the YMCA very badly) that I couldn’t send my message till now! But on a serious note, I hope you’ve had a FANTASTIC birthday and the little ones have been waiting on you hand and foot supplying you with fresh cocktails and other essential birthday items!

It looks like Dan and Sophie have failed, *grumble, grumble* but oh well, missing you loads Ashleigh and love you lots. =3 xxx

Had a brilliant day today, done lots of things (Will tell more about at home) and have to go now, a very tall man is demanding his computer back and since it’s his birthday too, I suppose i’m going to have to let him have it….

At the Jamboree, weather is as mixed as anything. rain is extreme, then the sun is 50! Met Mrs Japan today and spoke to her, I’ll show you a picture when I get back. A week tomorrow until I get home, it’s gone so quickly.
Speak to you all soon. xxxxx

Matt M

We’re at the jamboree and after a few days finally saw part of mt Fuji. There’s no snow on it though. Swapped a bit but some people have got like 9 neckers and been trading for pokemon woggles. There are only cheap keyrings cut out thogh so they have wasted it a bit. The weather is annoying from sweating like a beast to freezing under a lot of rain. Missing you and see you soon and hope grandma is alright.
Matt

Nick J
its been abit cloudy when we have been at camp and we nearly got flooded out of the tent because of some heavy rain. ive got a few swaps with neckers but nothing too great its been sunny and got a couple of pictures of fuji.
see you soon

Hi everyone,
homestay was really good, on the first day the family let us go shopping in Kyoto, then we went back to there house and played on the Nintendo Wii. On the second day we went into their outdoor pool, then they took us out for lunch and after that the man who was looking after us ran a scout troop and his scouts came to his house and we made a drum bath(oil drum filled with hot water). After that we had tea and then we got taken back to a drop off point and then we had a overnight coach to the Jamboree. We are now at the bottom of mount fiji and meeting loads of other scouts from around the world. Hope to see you soon

Connor xx

Nick J (earth)
hey mum,
homestay was amazing, on the first day when we met the family we got taken to downtown kyoto where we stayed and we bought a couple of presents. after we got taken to there house and had tea which was alright not the greatest though ;/. we played on the wii with there sons and we were shown up by 5 year olds haha. the next day after breakfast we went in there pool with there sons and made up a handshake with all three of them. we then went to a musuem which was boring but we went to a restaurant after. we then went back into the pool and met some japanese scouts who made a bath using an oil drum but me and connor didnt go in. we had curry for tea and then got taken back to the coach and it was an over night trip to the camp sight which is where i am now. it is really tiring and i really wanna go bed haha. we cant see mount fiji because it is cloudy but as soon as we do i will take pictures and sow you when we get back. see you later

Hi mum sorry i’ve not sent any messages yet so i’ll try and fill you in as much as i can.
Nagano was great. we had camp olympics, a hike down to the near town, and i really enjoyed some of the food. We had pork curry 3 times which was really nice.
We had a long drive down to Kyoto for homestay after Nagano. The homestay family
was very nice and took us to a golden temple and a town called Arashiyama.
After homestay which was only on day we had a 9 hr overnight coach to the campsite where we are now. We should be able to see Mt Fuji but there is to much mist which will hopefully clear soon so i can get a good pic

hope you are having a nice time in Germany, and say than you to Jacob and Callum for the messages

really missing you and see you back at Morrisons in a few weeks.

Family,
Left Nagano on Thursday, and went to home stay. The family couldn’t have been nicer to us, very funny stories to tell when I get back. Arrived at the jamboree Sunday morning, at 7.00am after a poor night’s sleep, keeping a ‘diary’ up to date to tell you all in detail when I get back. The weather is a killer at the bottom of Mount Fuji (which we cannot see because of mist) and it’s not even sunny, but people are getting burnt, unless it changes, we will not sleep tonight. Still having an amazing time and meeting new people. Thanks for the message from mum, and still waiting on one from Grandma and Grandad (unless they don’t know how to use the blog).
Staying safe and busy.
Lots of love

Hello all back in England or Cyprus, I am having an amazing time here on the jamboree and an even better time back at the home stay, we stayed in Mr Tamagotis house for 1 night and had a great time, I got you all a pair of chop sticks each and some individual presents as well ;). I had just a swell time and on the second day of home stay they took us to the Kyoto city centre where I bought a few things and a fake pair of ray bans ;). We were on an overnight coach ride and had about 2 hrs sleep :O. hope to hear from you all soon and hope Cyprus is going to be just swell .

Hey everyone in England. Having an amazing time here in Japan. Finished home stay yesterday after two days. Me and a guy called George stayed the night at some ones house, they had one son and on daughter (can’t remember their names though). We left dead early in the morning on Friday and got to a hotel at 6ish. They took us back to their house then we went out for tea at a Japanese restaurant. The next day we went to a massive water park with a huge shopping centre under it, it was amazing. Then that night we had an overnight coach, but I only got like 2 hours sleep. Got to the jamboree at about 7 this morning and have set up and have played cricket and stuff. Better go now though there is a massive queue. Give love to everyone when they arrive.

Loads of love

Hello everyone in England. I don’t know if you are in London or not and if dad is on a fishing trip. Have you read the face book message?? Today has been tiring as we went on an over-night bus. I am shattered. The place that we are at is unbelievably hot. The tents are boiling so I am unsure whether or not I will sleep tonight. The home stay was great. I was with an American guy and his Japanese wife and 2 kids. It was great fun but now I am tried but not looking forward to sleeping in the hot tent. I will be able to send messages back as the laptop will be available everyday! Speak to me back please.

Lots of love

Hi guys this is the first chance I have had to message you since you got back. I really liked the present. I have just done home stay with a Japanese man and his wife. He took us out on the first night to a sushi bar and then on the second day showed us a few temples in Kyoto. It was really good, I hope you liked Japan and are having a good time in England. I am having a great time, I will message you again.

Love

Hiya I didn’t message before because I didn’t know if you knew the website. I am having a great time. I’ve arrived at the jamboree and it is very humid. I was wondering when charl has or had her test yet.

Hello once again family!!

Home stay was amazing! Stayed with Andy, Nick F and Matthew in Osaka with a family of 4. The day we got there they took us out for dinner with the grandma and uncle of the family (he lives in L.A, so he could speak English quite well). Then they took us out the next day to downtown Osaka where we went to a place exactly like the Trafford centre, mainly because of the fountains and architecture.
I went in the Onsen just once at nagano, and in downtown Osaka I bought a pair of flip-flops which says “HENRY & HENRY made in Italy” they were bright yellow, they are quite cool! Unfortunately, my camera lens is stuck and I can’t take or show photos  I don’t know how it happened but I’m quite upset. This time I will mention Eve so here goes: Hello Eve!! I am going to get you the best present from Tokyo Disney!! I’ve got all my camp bank left, and just about around 7,000 yen and I didn’t spend any of the 20 quid I was given for the airport.

Anyway, speak again soon,
Love Henry xxx

Hey Aimee Vickers, have fun in Lancaster hope you and Ais really enjoy it should be fun! And okay about no replies whilst your away I wish I was going with you. It’s 05:02 in the morning when I’m writing this where you are so you should be getting your beauty sleep (L)
I’m having a really awesome time and just then me and 5 other people out of my troop played in a volley ball comp and Earth won (with some superb serving by me ovbs!) And I also had to move money with chopsticks which I’m quite good at as well.
I hope Holly’s was fun and everyone had a good time, have fun at Hayleys I’ll miss you too you’ll have to be on sick duty again haha, don’t get too drunk if Mardy Bum come on think of me <3 Yes no one could ever sing an xx song doing both parts that much of been spectacular!
Leaving for Home Stay but it should be called HoHo anyways I don’t know who I will be staying with yet but I hope there nice and take us shopping or somewhere, we have to leave at 8:00 in the morn on Friday day so that means getting up earlier than you :o I completely didn’t hear the alarm this morning so I got up with 15 mins to spear before breakfast so it was a rush!
One of the presents I was going to get you I’ve got I hope you like them, they’ve got red on them so I’ve got my fingers crossed but it’s not your main present. What would you like?
Btw my feet are killing I think I’ve been put off them for life I’ve got some HUGE blisters.

Hi all,
Today was the Olympics (sports day), the sports involved ranged from chopstick races to volleyball, and drinking races to football. I competed in the tennis competition and finished in first place!! A victory in a dramatic final clinched the championship title for me and James, but more importantly for earth! The weather is fantastic and I’m trying hard to avoid burns.
Hope you are all well,
Sam

Hi. Thanks for the message you sent yesterday, and yes; I have been cleaning my teeth. Anyway what time did Mum leave for Kenya?? And also tell Uncle Bob C to send a message please. Send love to Grandma, Grandad and Grandad G. We did the camp Olympics today and Earth won by 9 points, we got 38 overall. We leave Nagano today and head off to the home stay.

Lots of Love

Hi family,
Sorry about not sending you messages sooner. I never got around to it before but I am going to try again. Tell dad that I might send some messages on face book if I have Wi-Fi connection at the home stay. I am in Osaka. Our troop is split into two.
I have taken a few pictures but I am not in many. The onsen was great. It is very relaxing. I have drunk loads of water but I am apparently a bit ill as I am not drinking enough. The cap is a life saver thanks for putting it in.
Speak to me back soon but I might not be able to talk back for a while.
Lots of love

Hello again family!
Got your messages and I would just like to know what exactly nana was doing on my rowing machine? It’s nice to know that you have started my room but is this exercise bike brand new or is it another freebie like off eamon?
Anyway thanks for the offer of an exercise bike, I think I would use it more than that feeble rowing machine and its weak handle! Everyone took loads of pictures in the first couple of days that’s why I’m wearing that blue shirt; I’ve been wearing the other tops you packed. And yes, I am still a bit homesick.
I came 8th out of 8 in the badminton of the camp Olympics. I thought I was getting better but obviously not. I wasn’t allowed to do basketball because of my wrist but it is a lot better. As long as I keep it in the splint I’m fine.
The other morning I felt like I did before I came (ill) but it subsided after I drank a full bottle of vitamin water, which has now become Miracle/Magic water according to Paul. Oh, I keep forgetting to add, Earth won the camp Olympics with 38 points and then there was fire, wind and water were in last.
Love from Henry xx

Hey Aimee,
Just got your message about sending you a message so here it goes, btw every message that is sent to us here is read out at breakfast! So here it goes…
Were leaving the resort area thing on Thursday to stay with the host family so that should be interesting since I don’t know any Japanese but I’ve already got you a present and wondering if you’ll like something else I’ve saw? As well were going Tokyo Disney and shopping as well at the end of our trip so ill have loads of stories to tell you when I get back. the Japanese are really polite and dead clean so it’s a big shock for me haha :D
Your letters are really really sweet and I look forward to reading them every night before I fall asleep. I’m on day 8 I think for tonight I wonder what it’ll say :D
Al the tech guy says he might let me on the book of faces later so ill send you a big message then and a wall post, too make you happy also on the Nippon Jambo there should be internet access so ill go on it every few days and say hi!
I also think I’ve lost weight while I’m here because there’s loads of sports things to do like tennis and basketball or relaxing if you get a chance. the house were staying in is really nice and cool with chairs that spin round 360⁰ oh how the little things make me laugh :D :D
Love you loads xxx
Hopefully send you some other things later on fb or deffo on the Jambo!

So far it’s been awesome, a bit hot and I’m using so much sun cream and insect repellent that I don’t think the insects can actually get through it all to bite me! I have found myself a Widge (Please read nothing into this if your reading Ashleigh, he’s a real person, not just an innuendo!) and found I’m in his tent for the Jambo (Along with an assortment of other great people =D), great success! Can’t wait to go to homestay, sounds like it’s going to be…. interesting, still don’t know who I’m staying with though XD.
Spent today running around trying to work out a rather difficult challenge/clue/course thing thought up by possibly the most evil people in the world…. yes, I’m looking at Nick RIGHT now!
If your reading this Ashleigh, depending on how you got the message, you may or not know that most messages you post are read out by a rather tall man in front of roughly 70 people, it’s the tall person that I don’t trust…. O_o. I’m missing you loads and being beaten ruthlessly by people with injured wrists at cards isn’t helping. xxx Looking forward to seeing you back at home or speaking to you if you’ve got the message, I hope you have XD xxx Apologies if you haven’t got the message that you can use the site to message me, I blame Dan or Jade/Sophie!
What you been up to while I’ve been away? xxx
Love you loads, bye bye, speak later =). xxx

Hey Aimee, its 12:14 in the afternoon right now where you are, glad you enjoyed holly’s i’ll look at all the pictures when i get the chance possibly at home stay or Jambo, please tell me all about it when i get back, i love listening to you (L) Bet your looking forward to Hayleys party you wont have to see me in flower shorts haha :D
I had to open your day 8 letter early to day i miss you so much ;( there really nice and for sweden we’ll both do 21, can i read the extra 3 when i get back? please?

Hello, should be around midday as you get this or a time like that, if my working is right (probably isn’t). Been fantastic so far, got to know some amazing people and see some amazing sites, like the temple we went to see on the hike the other day. I’ve been homesick quite a bit recently, it seems like i just can’t control it at times. This is why I’m deciding to reply to your message. Got the camp olympics tomorrow, not sure what I’m doing though. Then after that we are off to home stay, dunno where I’m going but i hope it’s pretty good. Oh, I almost forgot about my wrist. Yeah I’ve completely re-snapped it. Naaaa I haven’t just joking Mum.(and Dad) It’s fine, it’s a lot better because I’ve been wearing the splint but the spare one is too small. I’m having such a great time. Can’t speak a word of japanese but I am getting pretty good with the chopsticks. Anyway, hope your ok without me.
Love Henry xx

Hey mum, dad, will and Ellie hope England is ok and that you have a great time in Cyprus. I am having an amazing time here and hope you can see that in some of the pictures, its much hotter than England and I can’t believe how it can change from nice weather to thunder storm :S . the camp Olympics is tomorrow and could be one of the four picked for football (fingers crossed).
I hope that dad has been buying will enough match attacks and that Eleanor is practicing the annoying song that she has for the 6 months ;) . I hope you are missing me at home because I am here which sometimes gets me emotional. Ryan is still being himself and is making us all lol. The jetlag hit me quite hard but I have been coping alright. I’ve spent quite a lot of money but I am now saving up to get you all a present and me an IPAD.
I arrived here ok from that killer morning at Morrison’s to moment I arrived at the resort. It took us over 35 hours to get here but it was all worth it. I’m in a house that we filled with pillows and all my mates its already ticked off one of my life ambitions ;). I’m missing you all here and hope your missing me too, write back soon,
Lots of love

Hi mum, dad, nanny, Grandma and Ben. I am having a great time in Japan. It is really hot and very humid. I am sweating loads. I have been ill for a few days but I am ok now. The days have been chilled but we have been doing lots of things. How is England? (Cold I hope!) How is everyone?
Tomorrow we are doing a camp Olympics and I am doing table tennis. How is Ben? Still on the X-box? If you are reading this, at least you got onto the site. That is a miracle in itself. I have been missing you loads and I can’t wait to see me.
The travelling was about 35 hours and I didn’t sleep on the plane. On Friday, we are taking an overnight coach to the home stay. I think I am still with Henry which is good. Are you all missing me? I hope that Sid is happy and so is Maggie. The food is quite nice so I am eating ok. Have a great time in London and dad on his fishing holiday. The weather is crazy! It changes from boiling hot to thunderstorms like that!
The only thing that I have lost so far is an Explorer Shirt which I can’t find . I did lose 11,000 yen but it got handed in the next day. Thank god.
I am missing you all loads and I can’t wait to see you! Send a message back if you can soon.

Good mornin’ from Japan!
I thought I better write a message, as I’m sure Mum will be missing me. :P I’m doin’ fine – I’m eating enough and am finally getting used to the rice. I’ve been eating chicken and having a stab at the vegetables, but definitely not enjoying the fish. D:
It is absolutely BOILING, but I’m applying sun cream, wearing my sun hat, drinking lots of water and taking lots of pictures. :)
Activities have been good, as has the free time. So far we’ve had golf, karaoke, lots of games of cards, Olympic games (all the official ones, like charades and balancing), but my favourite so far has been the walk (yes, how shocking, I enjoyed the walk :P) into the local village. We looked around the nearby shrines and nosied around the shops that were open. I tried some Japanese sweets and treats – my favourite is the pocky which is HIGHLY addictive.
I better go now, as Clair is moaning at me for writing a novel. :P
See you for now – Matthew D

Family,
Just seen a cat whilst writing this, it was in a Japanese ladies bag!
No signal at the resort, and I’d assume no signal for the rest of Japan. So I’ll keep in touch over here.
Having an amazing time, the weather has been mainly HOT in the morning and afternoon and STORMS in the evening. Not lost anything thus far, so things have been looking up. The Japanese bath (Onsen) has been enlightening, having to bathe with naked men and boys has been an experience, but we’re all getting used to it.
G & G, can you forward this to Mum, she’ll want to hear from me (hopefully)
Postcard will be on its way as soon as I can buy some.
Lots of love,
Andy F xxx

Family,
Hey guys, how’s it going? Japan’s awesome (and hot! Although it seems to have tropical storms every night!)
Erm…. Having a great time. Cant’ get signal on my phone at the moment, but will keep trying.
Hope everything’s okay at home, and can’t wait to see you all again soon.
Lots of love,
Thomas B xxx

Troop Updates

July 26, 2010 Blog, Earth, Fire, OR, Water, Wind No Comments

Wind Troop
Today Wind Troop kicked off the camp bases with camp Olympics in training for the championship on Thursday between all groups. Events included basketball, volleyball, football, balance beam, a chopstick challenge and a boat race. We already have some clear contenders for bragging rights so the other troops need to watch out!!!

Fire Troop
Fire took part in “The Troop Challenge” were they had to solve a series of problems, questions and clues so they could progress to the next stage of the game.

Earth Troop
Earth took part on a hike into the local village to experience Japanese culture up close and personal. The trip included a 40 min mountain hike to the rural village, where they got to see many interesting things including local bugs, buildings and Buddha’s. Only downside was the lack of open shops on a Sunday, however the two shops that were open more than compensated for this in generosity with gifts of sweets and drinks of Green Tea.

Water Troop
Water spent the morning on the Mini Golf Course, with an inter-patrol competition. The afternoon saw some song practice, followed by Team Games.

Earth Troop Update

Japan has been a great trip so far, even though it has rained a bit. Today we hiked down to the local village to see some temples and some monuments. Yesterday we had a day to relax; it was a very hot day. The journey to Japan was not too bad; as soon as we stepped out of the plane we could feel the heat, which is a lot hotter than the UK. I am looking forward to the rest of the trip and am dreading the day we leave. See you guys in 3 weeks. (P.S Mum, have a good time in Kenya and Dad in the Lake District)

Daniel C – Earth Troop

I’ve got to say, this has been one of the most fantastic trips I’ve ever been on. Already I can see the cultural differences in this country and so far it’s been absolutely brilliant, today we took a ‘walk’ into the village below our hostel, to look at some temples and visit the high street. When we got to the temples, we were greeted by a rather kind lady, who decided to show us around and let us see behind the temple and look at the memorials and things we wouldn’t normally be allowed to see. As well as this, halfway through the day, we stopped to rest at a shrine, and another Earth patrol brought back a bag full of drinks given to them by a workshop owner below the shrine as a present for us all! Not only did this happen, but later on, we were given a present from the owner of a shop we passed on the high street (Possibly the only shop open on a Sunday!), I think this is what has struck me most about Japan, how friendly, kind and considerate the people are. The weather so far has been fantastic, sunny mostly with the occasional massive thunderstorm as we made our way up from the village, but all in all, it’s been a fantastic trip and I’m looking forward to the home stay and being on site at the Jamboree. See you guys back in ‘sunny’ England in a couple, of weeks.
